Linton's assistant called me the day before the last election. "Can I ask whether you are voting Labour". No. 'Can I ask why". The congestion charge. 'Can I put that down as transport". No, put it down as the congestion charge.

Linton is toast and needs a new job. Especially when Wandsworth residents find out Mr Leninstone is considering extending the congestion charge along Wandsworth Rd to Lavender Hill and Clapham Junction. Indeed, the traffic lights along the route have just been connected up the telephone network. Funny that.
